It’s almost here!
It’s getting closer!
There’s less than a week before … (drumroll)… Nationals! Are you ready?
If you are new to Ultimate, come along and see what it’s all about. Will the trophy stay in Cape Town, or will the upcountry teams wrestle it away?
Here’s some nb info for the players from the organiser-people:
• Captain’s meeting at 08h00 on Saturday. First game starts at 09h00. Last game slot on Saturday is 17h00 – 18h00.
• First game on Sunday is 08h00. The final will take place 16h00 – 17h00.
• All players to please bring a white shirt to use as alternative strip
• A team lunch pack will be provided on both days

School’s update #3
Hi there fellow flying disc enthusiasts! There is some super exciting stuff happening behind the scenes of The- Unofficial-Cape-Town-Ultimate-Schools-League-Initiative. Would be nice to let everyone hear what’s been going on!
Bergvliet enters their second month of Ultimate playing. 20 kids plus have been showing their commitment every week at BHS Ultimate practices on Mondays. Steve P has fallen into the position of head coach, with the regular to not-so-regular help from the very helpful Chris, Bridget, Hannah, Darryn and myself. (Hope I haven’t forgotten anyone!)
Apart from Mondays, the kids throw disc around during breaks and PT, and were wanting another day of coaching as well! This keenness and enthusiasm we are seeing is just the tip of the Ultimate iceberg! We have thousands of kids in CT just waiting for the opportunity to play a sport that “is not kak.” Perhaps one of the most exciting questions asked by the kids (frequently) is “Who can we play against?”
Which brings me to more good news:
Brent and myself had a meeting with Waldorf Constantia this morning, and we have a spot in assembly on the first day of next term to present Ultimate to another excitable horde of adolescents! 2nd school on board!
The International school heard mention of what we were doing, and contacted us asking if we could come to their school. As Brent so nicely put it, the boulder that has been pushed so slowly up the hill has now started rolling on its own and we are being left behind in the dust.
We need volunteers! We need help because by September we aim to have 6 schools on board, which means 12 coaches! Contact me or anyone else involved if you think you can steal away from work for 2 hours once a week, if you are your own boss, or if you just feel like quitting your job and playing ultimate, like Mike.
Pull together Ultimate players!
Cheers
Jonno
Schools Exhibition Game
Here’s the report back from Jonno about the Exhibition game held at Bergvliet High on Thurs 13th during their school assembly:Hi all…
The game was great! In the *flipping* windy sense! We had 15 players, in red and blue, with Ant commentating and cracking jokes about Pinky’s height over a PA system, blaring over a crowd of about 600 kids.
We had representatives from Ambassadors, Cape Disc Doctors and Chilli at the game, and it was awesome! Red kicked off to a flying lead of 2-0 and then 3-1, with Blue springing to the occasion drawing the game AS the bell rang 5-5.
It was windy, veeery windy. Lots of turn overs, and a number of cracking catches, swiftly followed by a choir of “OOOH’s” and “AAAH’s”. Its a hell of a thing having a great crowd like that. Watch this space! Ultimate is only going in ONE direction from here.
Guys, well done on a super successful game! We got what we wanted: a little kid walked up to me after the game, and said “Where can I go to play this?” Another one, who already attends practice asked “Can I come play with you guys at pickup?”
Onwards and Upwards!
Jonno
HEADS UP:
Next exhibition game will be held at Waldorf Constantia between the 8th and the 11th of April. Clear your calendars, submit your leave, this is gonna be an awesome game!
